Community research
Learn how to identify heritage subjects, prepare questions and work respectfully with knowledge holders.
Program 01
Explore. Document. Preserve. Digitise.
HER Digital Heritage Bootcamp is a practical learning programme that teaches young people, particularly girls and young women, how to use digital tools, artificial intelligence, storytelling and content creation to document, preserve and share African cultural heritage in ways that appeal to new generations.
HER Digital Heritage Bootcamp gives young African women the skills to find, document and share the stories, traditions and knowledge within their communities. Participants learn how to work with community members and knowledge holders, document heritage responsibly and turn what they discover into meaningful digital stories and records.

About the programme
Participants explore oral histories, folklore, languages, recipes, proverbs, songs, traditions, cultural practices and community stories. Guided learning helps them understand both the creative possibilities and the responsibilities of digital preservation.
Through practical exercises, participants learn to interview knowledge holders, gather consent, photograph and record cultural material, shape stories for digital audiences and archive their work with clear attribution.
The programme is designed for girls and young women who want to protect community knowledge while building confidence in research, media production, responsible AI use and digital storytelling.
