The Story
In Medina, the sabar does not simply accompany a celebration — it announces it, names the people arriving and comments on them as they dance.
Each rhythm carries meaning. Some belong to a family, some to an occasion, some to a joke that only the neighbourhood understands.
The three drummers filmed here learned from their fathers. Two of them now teach the same patterns to students over video calls, to Senegalese families living abroad who want their children to recognise the rhythm of home.
