Written memory from a family separated across two coasts.
A shoebox of unsent letters, written over eleven years by a mother in Banjul to a son who had reached Europe by sea.
The family gave permission for eight of them to be transcribed. They are not dramatic. They are about rent, rain, a cousin's exams and a goat.
Read together they document migration from the side that stays behind — the side that is rarely recorded.
