A calendar of gatherings, with the families who host them.
Festival Season is not a single event. It is a rolling calendar of gatherings across the continent, from the well-known Roots Homecoming Festival in The Gambia to the smaller village celebrations that never make a listings page.
Each entry is built with community partners and names the hosting families, what visitors are invited into, and what is not open to guests. Some events are public; others require an introduction.
We update the calendar each season as dates are confirmed. Use it to plan travel around living culture rather than around a stage.
Highlights
- Community-confirmed dates and local contacts
- Clear guidance on what is open to visitors
- Music, masquerade, fishing and harvest gatherings
- Direct introductions to hosting families where appropriate
