Gambian Home Cooking Day Experience
Experience5–6 hours Tujereng, West Coast RegionEnglish & Wolof
Dress as a local, visit Tanji market, and cook authentic Gambian dishes from start to table.
The Gambian Home Cooking Day Experience is a hands-on culinary journey through the African Village Concept in Tujereng. It begins at Tanji market, where you shop for the day's ingredients with your host, and ends around a shared bowl in the compound.
You choose which dishes to learn from a menu of Gambian staples: Benachin (jollof rice), Domoda (peanut butter stew), Plasas (spinach stew) or Yassa (marinated chicken or fish with onions, mustard and lemon). Each dish is taught the way it is cooked at home — by standing beside someone who already knows it.
There are no written recipes. You will be given a spoon, shown the rhythm of the pot, and corrected until it tastes right. Vegetarian and fish adaptations are available, and the hosts will explain how each version fits into the household's cooking tradition.
Her African Culture lists this experience as a way to meet Gambian food culture from the inside. Bookings, pricing and full details are managed by the experience operator.
