The Gambia
A country shaped by one river, where griot lineages, riverside villages and living rituals hold the memory of the land.
The Gambia follows the course of the River Gambia from the Atlantic deep into the interior, and almost every cultural practice recorded here sits somewhere along that water. Fishing communities, ferry crossings, mangrove creeks and market towns are all part of the same story.
This is our first fully open country archive. Griot families, women's craft groups, rain-ritual custodians and village elders have all contributed records, and each entry carries the name of the knowledge holder, the community and the consent given.
